It’s Not Easy Being Green

My dear friend Teena reminded me that this week was Sesame Street’s 40th anniversary. There’s a song Kermit sings called “It’s Not Easy Being Green”. It starts off listing all the tough aspects of “green life” but by the end of it the list talks about the wonders of being green. I love that song.

For me that song is gospel song. Here’s why, as a kid it wasn’t always easy reconciling the expectations of God on my life with what I really wanted to do. You can’t do this. You can’t go here. You can’t go there. Everything is a list of “can’ts” with very crumbs of “cans”. If it wasn’t for the music scene and church friends who knows where I would be.

But as you grow up, you start to see God’s hand in your life. You see him at college graduation. You see him in long standing friendships. You see him in your beautiful wife. You see him in the still sound faculties of your mind. So now being “green” isn’t bad at all. In fact I love it. It looks good on me. If that makes me stand out from the pack for whatever reason, I’m good. Green is great.

Thanks Teena. Much love. (PS. Check our robertpicart.com to see the video of Kermit sing it. It’s classic.)
